About us

German Doctors carry out voluntary medical projects in developing countries and help where misery is part of everyday life. Find out more about the people behind German Doctors, our principles, priorities and networks. In the Transparency and Control section, you can get an overview of our income and expenditure.

Who we are

German Doctors - our name says it all. We send doctors on voluntary six-week missions to medically underserved areas, mainly in countries of the global south - Kenya, India, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone and the Philippines. In the slums of megacities, in rural areas of poverty, in refugee camps and on a civilian sea rescue ship, we provide basic medical care to people in extreme need. We also train local health workers to improve the limited health services available. Since the organisation was founded in 1983, more than 3,500 German doctors have carried out around 7,700 missions in 13 different countries. This equates to around 13 million patient contacts!
