Bangladesch

We have been active in Bangladesh for over 30 years. We perform medical aid in the slums of Dhaka und Chittagong with millions of inhabitants. Aside from our medical services, we also offer health education and attempt to strengthen the position of women. This enables us to improve the living conditions of especially impoverished individuals in the long run!

Hilfe für Familien in Elendsregionen in Bangladesch

Assistance in the poverty zones

Bangladesh with its approximately 165 million inhabitants is the most densely populated country in the world. Despite continual economic improvements and verdant nature with numerous waterways, the country is plagued with bitter poverty and terrible environmental pollution. The lives and fundamental existence of the population are often threatened by strong cyclones and floods.

Innumerable people from rural areas seek a better life in the metropoles every year. Due to the high level of unemployment in the cities, many people must work as day laborers in the slums. Families live from hand to mouth under very crowded conditions, often without the provision of drinking water, sewage disposal, and electricity.

Our volunteer doctors see the results of such bad living conditions daily: colds, diarrhoea, skin diseases and even tuberculosis are common. Many children under five years of age are undernourished.

Our Medical Projects

Chittagong

We care for up to 120 patients in our out-patient clinic and make home visits to especially ill individuals daily in the Chittagong slum. A feeding program and a comprehensive counselling and training program for women complement our medical services.

Dhaka

We provide medical services to many people who work under extremely difficult conditions in textile factories in the Savar region located north of Dhaka. People who live on the edges of society, like sex workers, transgender individuals, and drug addicts also visit our clinic there.

Our Partner Project

Education for Children

Together with our local partner, NETZ Bangladesh, we provide high-grade education for children from extremely poor families and religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Dr. Melanie Buchacker-Hajduk engagiert sich für die German Doctors

‟My third mission as a German Doctor was in Chittagong. In Bangladesh, a Moslem country, the roles of women is lightyears away from ours in Europe. Many young women live with three and more children in extreme poverty.  Most of these women complain of headaches, stomach pain, and general discomfort during our consultations. These complaints are often caused by undernourishment, iron deficiency, and psychosomatic conditions.ˮ

Dr. Melanie Buchacker-Hajduk
has already performed missions in Mindanao, Nairobi, und Chittagong.
