Diese tollen dunklen Augen geh\u00f6ren der sieben Monate alten Leah Rose. Sie wohnt mit ihrer Mutter derzeit auf der Kinderstation des German Doctor\u2019s Hospitals in Cagayan de Oro. Als sie vergangenes Wochenende Durchfall bekam und erbrechen musste und schlie\u00dflich auch noch Fieber hinzukam, machte sich ihre Mama Leahniel (23) am Montag auf den Weg ins Krankenhaus. Leah Rose wurde dort v\u00f6llig ausgetrocknet aufgenommen. Sie ist ein typischer von vielen F\u00e4llen, die t\u00e4glich das German Doctor\u2019s Hospital erreichen: Wenn Kinder wegen schweren Erbrechens und Durchfall nicht mehr ausreichend Fl\u00fcssigkeit aufnehmen k\u00f6nnen, sind sie schnell in Lebensgefahr.<\/p>\n

Dann werden sie station\u00e4r aufgenommen. Durch kontinuierliche Infusionen wird ihnen vorsichtig die Fl\u00fcssigkeit ersetzt, die sie verloren haben. Diese Therapie kann einige Tage dauern, besonders dann, wenn das betreffende Kind auch noch unter Mangelern\u00e4hrung leidet. Oft sind W\u00fcrmer oder andere Parasiten Ausl\u00f6ser f\u00fcr schwere Durchfallerkrankungenund m\u00fcssen parallel mit Medikamenten behandelt werden. Wenn die kleinen Patienten nicht mehr erbrechen und sich ihr Zustand deutlich gebessert hat, wird ihnen etwas zu trinken angeboten: eine Kombination aus Salzen und Zucker (sogenannte \u201eoral rehydrationsalts\u201c, kurz ORS), die in Wasser aufgel\u00f6st wird. Dies ist f\u00fcr die M\u00fctter auch zu Hause einfach herzustellen.<\/p>\n

Leah Rose geht es wieder besser. Sie wurde f\u00fcnf Tage lang aufgep\u00e4ppelt: sie bekam Paracetamol gegen das Fieber, eine Infusionstherapie und schlie\u00dflich die ORS-L\u00f6sung. Und konnte Freitag nachmittag entlassen werden \u2013 nach Hause zu Vater Ren\u00e9 Boy (28), ihrer Gro\u00dfmutter und Schwester Renean Mae (4).<\/p>\n
